Teaching Tenets
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin
I believe in providing a quality and engaging education consisting of high expectations for all learners. Since each student is a unique individual who needs a caring and stimulating environment, it is my desire to help all students meet their fullest potential through my dedication, motivation, perseverance, hard work, and knowledge. I must ensure that my students are inspired to excel, and I strive to instill a lifelong love of learning and understanding for all people. Building trusting relationships, an equitable environment, mutual respect, and a positive collaborative culture through a social justice lens is a must. Without my efforts and facilitation in the classroom (brick and mortar and/or online learning environments), it will be easy to lose the opportunity to co-construct knowledge, which is critical to deep learning. I have an open mind, a positive attitude, consider myself a facilitator/mentor and one who exudes passion about learning. I strongly believe in equity for all learners.
Each course presents a diverse community of learners that varies in both abilities and learning styles. I believe in giving students the necessary tools with which to advance their knowledge and understanding within the educational arena. Accomplishing this requires teaching to the needs of each student so that all learners feel successful, are engaged in the content, and are prepared for post university employment/advancement.
