First Year Success

Welcome to Your First Year at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University

First Year Success supports first-time-in-college (FTIC) students transition to our campus and connect them with our trained Student Success Mentors. In the fall semester, new students will participate in seven FYS 101 seminars where they learn about campus resources and how to succeed at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University, then have weekly check-ins to maintain support and build community with peers on campus.

We are a university that promotes involvement that extends beyond campus boundaries, connecting students with the local community, fostering meaningful connections while providing a vibrant campus life that puts students first. These stuctured connections help you access campus resources, build meaningful relationships, and prioritize well-being and academic success.

  • Seminar 1 - Your First Week at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will begin their journey by learning the essentials for a successful start. Students will be introduced to key tools and resources, including how to access Blackboard for their online courses, how to look up their class schedules, and where to get a parking tag. They will also work on memorizing their L number, an important identifier for campus services.

  • Seminar 2 - Academic Support Services

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by learning about the academic support resources available through the Center for Academic Success. Students will explore services designed to help them succeed in their courses, including how to request tutoring and academic coaching support. As part of this seminar, students will set up their LU academic planner to help organize important deadlines, commitments, and study time throughout the semester.

  • Seminar 3 - Major and Career Exploration

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by exploring their chosen major and discovering the career opportunities that align with their academic and professional goals. Students will learn about resources available through Career and Professional Development, including how to stay informed about upcoming job fairs, networking events, internships, and career readiness opportunities. They will also complete the Focus2Career assessment, a valuable tool that helps students identify their interests, strengths, and potential career pathways connected to their field of study.

  • Seminar 4 - Financial Literacy

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by developing the financial knowledge and skills needed for college success. Students will learn about financial aid options and how to maintain eligibility, explore scholarship opportunities and application strategies, and gain practical money management skills, such as budgeting and responsible spending. They will also learn about Neches Federal Credit Union and the benefits of opening a student checking or savings account to help manage their finances.

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by developing information literacy skills and learning about key academic resources available on campus. Students will explore the Mary and John Gray Library and discover how to access research materials, databases, study spaces, and librarian support services. They will also learn about the Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program, which provides access to technology needed for academic success.

  • Seminar 6 - Health and Wellness

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by learning about resources that support their health and well-being. Students will explore the Student Health Center and learn how to maintain their physical health while attending college. They will also learn about the Recreational Sports Center and the opportunities it provides for fitness. Students will also be introduced to TimelyCare, a virtual health and mental health resource that offers convenient access to care and support.

  • Seminar 7 - Academic Advising

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by learning about the Undergraduate Advising Center and the important role academic advising plays in their success. Students will explore how advisors help them navigate degree requirements, course selection, and academic planning. They will also learn how to prepare for their upcoming advising appointment and spring 2027 course registration by reviewing their degree plan, identifying potential classes, and bringing questions about their academic goals.

  • Seminar 8 - Meet with an Enrollment Coordinator

    In this seminar, new ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Cardinals will continue their journey by connecting with their Enrollment Coordinator and strengthening their connection to their respective college. Students will learn how Enrollment Coordinators can serve as a resource for navigating campus, and staying engaged throughout their first year. They will also reflect on their academic progress and create realistic goals for the remaining eight weeks of the fall semester, focusing on strategies to stay motivated, attend class regularly, and successfully achieve their goals.

Access Your Fall 2026 Class Schedule

To access your fall 2026 class schedule, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to lamar.edu
  2. At the top left-hand corner, click on .
  3. Click on .
  4. Log in with your User ID, which is your L number (Example: L12345678). Your PIN is your 6 numerical digits password.
  5. Forgot PIN? Be sure to type your L number first, and then click where it says Forgot PIN?
  6. Click on Student.
  7. Click on NEW Student Self-Service.
  8. Log in with your LEA and your password. Your LEA is your username (Example: acardinal14) and your password is the one you created when you accessed your account for the first time. Forgot your username and password? Copy and paste this link in the URL: http://students.lamar.edu/it-services-and-support/password-reset.html
  9. Click on Student Schedule.
  10. On your class schedule, make sure the term is selected for fall 2026.
  11. Below where it says Schedule Details, look for First Year Seminar or FYS 101.
  12. You should see where it says Main Building and Room. (Example: Main Building - THOMAS M MAES II BUILDING, Room - 00025)
  13. Once you have located your building name and room number, then check to see which day of the week is highlighted (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday).
