  • Feeling more welcomed in college than they did in high school.
  • More structure to their new routine as a college student.
  • Becoming more aware of organizations on campus.
  • Helping build community whenever you know that you are not alone.
  • Helping figure out all the resources that are available on campus.
  • Confidence in turning to their peers and professors if they ever needed help.

First Year Success

Is this your first time in college? We are here to welcome you to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University and invite you to participate in our transition program, First Year Success. In this transition program, we connect first-time-in-college students or FTIC students with Student Success Mentors based on their meta major. These small groups help FTIC students navigate campus life and access academic resources.

First Year Success hosts weekly 1-hour in-person seminars led by an LU Student Success Mentor during the first half of the fall and spring semester for newly admitted FTIC students. Additionally, throughout the semester, our Student Success Mentors participate in check-ins with our newly admitted FTIC students and encourage them to be a part of our LU community.

Topics We Cover

  • Expectations and responsibilities as an LU student
  • Introduction of available campus resources
  • Academic majors and connection to career interests
  • Money management and personal planning
  • Understanding financial assistance
  • Learning strategies and support services
  • Health and wellness support
  • Academic advising and self-advocacy
  • Setting goals and expectations of academic success

New Chapter

Are you transferring from another 2-year or 4-year institution? We are here to welcome you to our Southeast Texas four-year university and invite you to participate in our transition services, New Chapter. In these transition services, we connect small groups of transfer-admitted college students with a Student Success Mentor, and they help our new students navigate campus life, access academic resources, and officially begin their new chapter at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University.

Our goal is for transfer-admitted students to make the most out of their university experience through peer-to-peer learning, student success activities, and community building. We have a team of Student Success Mentors who have successfully acclimated to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University's campus, and they are here to support you on your academic journey. They will provide consistent check ins throughout the fall and spring semesters via email, Teams, and GroupMe.

As a transfer-admitted student, you will have the opportunity to participate in monthly events as a way to connect with campus life. The Center for Academic Success also hosts special student success workshops every fall and spring semester tailored to the transfer experience.

The LU Transfer Team is also here to assist future and current transfer students. The team's goal is to help you transfer over as many of your credits as possible.
